Q:  We’ve experienced an explosion of new media in 
the last ten years. What new media would have 
fascinated your father? What do you think he 
would be studying now?

A:  Oh, heavens. All of them I imagine. VR, virtual 
reality. That would be interesting, but mildly so. It 
may have a very big impact in a few years so it’s 
worth looking at now while it’s still new. Things are 
visible when they’re new and when they’re very old. 
In the meantime when they’re everywhere, they’re 
invisible, and that’s what makes them very hard to 
study, the present.
